When things get overwhelmingly complicated, simplify, simplify simplify.

1 scarf from Italy.

1 scarf from Turkey.

1 scarf from China.

My friends all buy me scarves as souvenirs. I wonder why. Except for Ven and Su getting me a fork from a dark, dingy alley in Berlin, of course.

On another completely random note, here's Ziyang and his adorable new kitten.

As if ending work on Friday wasn't good enough,

I got my acceptance letter from NUS on Saturday. So I'm a free bird til I ACTUALLY START UNI in August.

It's so overwhelming. I've never been so utterly content at any one point of time before. :)

If it was one thing I really wanted these past few days, it was to actually meet Steve Aoki. The past 24 hours have been all too surreal and I'm going to document every little detail so I remember it forever.

So basically, Steve Aoki kickstarted my love for electro when I first heard his mix of UTIOG's Mama's Room, one and a half to two years ago. Not getting to go to ZoukOut (cos I was broke) and my KL plans falling through almost killed me. I missed him TWICE. So of course I was really going to make up for it this time around.

Ashley and I

Nicole and I

So Zouk was packed, as expected, and we managed to squeeze our way to the front, second row to be precise, right in front of the DJ console. I don't know how to continue from here. The pushing, the shoving (all while dancing), it was all so insane. But the music made it better and eventually I guess people just forgot about the discomfort and danced their hearts out. It helped that I was on an indescribable high from champagne and redbull. When 1967 came out, Ashley and I went absolutely insane, it's one of my favourite tracks from him.

The crowd wasn't fantastic but some of them were fun. There was the guy who liked my shades so much, he found his own pair (which happened to be lying on the floor somewhere). We ended up taking pictures and dancing together.

And there was the gorgeous Paolo Nutini lookalike who kept tapping me on the shoulder to make random comments or to give a thumbs up. We ended up doing this weird dance where we had our fingers wiggling and interlocking. Don't ask.

Sweatyyy

Aoki himself was brilliant, needless to say. How can someone have so much energy? He jumped into the crowd quite a few times, I got to hold his hand for a bit. He crowd surfed over us as well haha. 2 hours into the sweat we were drenched in sweat and still going strong. I don't I've ever achieved that level of euphoria while clubbing, not even for Above & Beyond. Apparently I even kissed Nicole twice (I have no recollection of this). I apologized when she told me but she said "It's okay, you were high and happy." THAT I WAS!

Yummmm

Mark Hunter! AKA The Cobrasnake

Aoki jumped into the crowd a lot. Right next to us.

The first half was alright, he played a few mixes I'd never heard before, like a new version of Justice's DANCE. The second half got pretty crazy. We'd moved to the back around 3am, where there was more space to dance. We really let go, I was jumping up and down in 4 inch heels. He played stuff like Guns N Roses, Johnny B. Goode. I distinctly remember Kenneth and I doing the lindy hop at one point hahaha. And then his remix of Bloc Party's Helicopter came on and the energy level shot up all over again. What an incredible set, honestly.

CAN YOU SEE HOW GODDAMN HAPPY WE ARE?!

Kenneth and I <3

I crashed at a friend's place afterwards, but I only got an hour or so of sleep, I was still on an incredible high, I just couldn't get to sleep. And lying there, I started to hurt EVERYWHERE. My feet were completely dead, the back of my hand was sore to the touch (it's covered in numerous bruises now), my arms were sore. I felt like I'd just gotten beaten up. But it felt so, so good. I went home feeling absolutely shit, knowing the night was over, and there was nothing to look forward to anymore. Here's where it gets better. Ashley and I decided to go down for the yard sale. Mark Hunter was there at the Dim Mak booth, surprisingly. We took a look around, come back down to find who else but Steve Aoki there. There were all these people taking pictures with him and whatnot. So Ashley asked him for one as well. Then he turns to me and he's like "I talked to you last night, right?" and I said "No you didn't". And he kept insisting he did and I was like "Maybe you just saw me, I was right at front, wearing red shades." and he's like "Yeah yeah, I remember you, but I thought I talked to you." So we talked for a bit, about whether he likes Singapore. What on earth do you say to the man who is the main reason electro is one of your favourite genres of music? He started telling us about his necklace got ripped off while he was crowd surfing. Ashley said she liked his set at ZoukOut as well, and commented on how drunk he was. Naturally, he said "I'm always drunk." So people kept asking him to take pictures in between, and he kept coming back over to us.

Okay, fangirl moment coming up. He put his arm on my shoulder and leaned against me so I had to put my arm around his waist. And we were just standing like that for a while. I was too much in shock to think of anything to say. I could only stare at Ashley with eyes wide open hahaha. We talked for awhile more, about when he's leaving and where he's off to and all that. So yeah I got a picture with him, but all these people kept coming up to him so we decided to leave.

I'm still in shock. I wish I could go back to last night and relive the past 24 hours over and over again. Ashley and I agreed that the whole night bonded us in an odd way. The build up of excitement these past few weeks, the dressing up, the dancing (the dancing especially. We shuffled I think! HAHA), then finally meeting him. I am just overwhelmed. I could die happy now. :)

Two words:

STEVE AOKI

Ugh. Absolutely dying of excitement. Plus, just one week of work left. Then I'll be getting my life back. :)

Got into NTU. Still awaiting reply from NUS. WISH ME LUCK!
